Genistein

Isoflavone CFTR potentiator

Phase of research

Accessible Dietary Supplement

How it helps

Restore CFTR Function

General information

Genistein is a soy-derived isoflavone and phytoestrogen. It is available as a dietary supplement. Natural sources of genistein include tofu, fava beans, soybeans, kudzu, and lupin. It exhibits antioxidant, antiangiogenic and immunosuppressive activities. It is being investigated in connection to cardiovascular disease prevention in postmenopausal women. In relation to cystic fibrosis, our AIM tool found the data that genistein can help activate CFTR chloride channels.
