IGF-1

Enhances protein expression of CFTR

Phase of research

Pre-clinical

How it helps

Restore CFTR Function

General information

IGF-1 is a substance naturally present in our cells. It is a hormone produced mainly by the liver, with a similar structure to insulin. It plays an important role in childhood growth. To treat growth failure, a synthetic analog of IGF-1, named mecasermin, is used.  In relation to cystic fibrosis, our AIM tool found the data that IGF-1 can help treat F508del-CFTR by enhancing the protein expression of CFTR.
