Aminoglycoside antibiotic capable of translational readthrough
General information
G418 is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Micromonospora rhodorangea. It is routinely used in laboratory research as a selective agent to select genetically engineered cells. In relation to cystic fibrosis, our AIM tool found the data that G418 can suppress nonsense CFTR mutations, namely G542X, R553X and W1282X, by suppressing their premature stop signal. This leads to the expression of full-length CFTR protein at the cell membrane.
