General information
Docosahexaenoic acid is a primary structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, and retina, thus it is important for their development and function. It also has anti-inflammatory effects. A mixture of fish oil and primrose oil is used as a docosahexaenoic acid supplement, which is also recommended to pregnant women. DHA is being researched in connection with Alzheimer's disease. In relation to cystic fibrosis, our AIM tool found the data that docosahexaenoic acid can lower oxidative stress and improve fatty acid metabolism in cystic fibrosis patients.
